NIGERIA – The Co-creation Hub (CcHub), in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, has unveiled the second group of twelve pioneering educational technology startups that will participate in the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship.

This initiative aims to bolster startups that are instrumental in transforming the educational sector across Africa by providing them with essential industry support and funding.

In February 2023, Innovation Village reported that CcHub had entered into a new alliance with the Mastercard Foundation to kick off an ed-tech accelerator program backed by a US$15 million investment. The program will focus on nurturing startups in Kenya and Nigeria.

The fellowship’s inaugural year saw the provision of foundational support to a dozen startups from Nigeria and an equal number from Kenya. Building on this momentum, the fellowship is now launching its second year.

The new cohort of twelve startups will be endowed with a rich array of resources, including technical and advisory services, mentorship opportunities, educational courses centered on the science of learning, and access to an expansive global network to amplify their impact.

The selected ventures include language learning solution Topset, testing and learning platform Exam Scholars; Data Entry Academy (DEA), a virtual academy and community that empowers job seekers with fundamental skills; and Genti Media, which focuses on African education and storytelling.

Also selected are school discovery and matching platform Edusko, on-demand professional development course provider Harde Business, animation skills provider Magic Lab Academy, and interactive learning platform Proud African Roots.

The cohort is completed by an AI-enabled learning platform for the visually-impaired Vinsighte, the social-emotional learning platform IM FLOW, the career development platform WIFICOMBAT, and the online learning service Skill Up With Kahdsole.

After a rigorous application and selection process, we are enthusiastic about the potential of the selected startups to enhance the face of ed-tech in the region,” said Nissi Madu, managing partner at CcHub.

“After the success of cohort one, we are excited about the second cohort’s potential to add to better education outcomes for students in Nigeria.”

The Mastercard Foundation Centre for Innovative Teaching and Learning recently launched a multi-year partnership with five additional tech hubs in Africa to implement the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship.

The five new tech hubs include EdVentures (Egypt), EtriLabs (Benin/Senegal), Reach for Change (Ethiopia), Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology (MEST) Africa (Ghana), and Sahara Consult (Tanzania).

They join Injini, Co-Creation Hub, and iHub, who are already implementing the Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship in South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya, respectively.

The Mastercard Foundation EdTech Fellowship is designed to provide growth-stage EdTech companies with business development support, the latest insight into the science of learning, and financial support to help them scale their products and offerings to drive inclusive access to education.
