UGANDA – Ori Rides, ride-hailing startup, has launched in Uganda to offer taxis, boda bodas, ambulances and car rental services, at any time and from anywhere and safer options for female customers.
The startup’s web and mobile based platforms key feature is a female driver option, developed to address female safety and security issues, which allows women to specifically request a female driver.
Launched in February, Ori Rides is an Uber-style app that already has over 2,000 drivers and over 7,000 customer downloads.
Founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Onyango Owor said Ori Rides was encouraging more women to join the ride-hailing business and addressing safety concerns.
“We introduced the female driver option for the ladies, as well as the panic button option in case a passenger feels insecure,” Owor said.
According to Disrupt Africa, the startup’s current competition in Uganda comes from Uber, Bolt, and SafeBoda, but Ori Rides thinks it has an edge given its wide array of options, and the fact it can be accessed by non-smartphone users.
Self-funded thus far, it is actively looking for financing to scale its operations beyond its Kampala base.
With the ORI Rides App one can conveniently order for a cab to pick you from anywhere with in Kampala and drop you anywhere within, around or even outside Kampala.
More to this, one can still order for a ride to pick and deliver certain things from one place to another without taking the trouble to go there physically. Their professional drivers will liaise with your people on the other end and the job will finely be executed.
Besides this, having an ORI Rides app means having an ambulance on your phone. An ambulance is like insurance service, you never know when you will need one. ORI Rides gives you an opportunity to scan through a series of available ambulances and call one whenever need arises.
