AFRICA- Radisson Hotel Group, one of the world’s largest hotel groups has announced the signing of 11 new hotels in Africa within the first nine months of 2019.
The group revealed that 8 of the new hotels will be in Egypt, 3 in Madagascar while South Africa and Algeria will each get one hotel.
The latest signings are in line with the group’s objective of operating over 130 hotels and 23,000 rooms by 2022.
Currently the Group’s African portfolio is comprised of almost 100 hotels and over 17,000 rooms which are either in operation or under construction.
The Senior Vice President, Development, Sub Sahara Africa, Radisson Hotel Group, Mr. Andrew McLachlan revealed that the hotel is going to focus on the 23 of the 60 larger cities in Africa in its development agenda.
East African cities of Addis Ababa, Nairobi, and Kampala were among the 23 which the Groups was seriously considering as it seeks to upscale its operations in the continent.
Mr Lachlan revealed that the group was exploring eco-tourism projects, leveraging the National Parks in Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya.
In terms of beach prospects, Lachlan said that the group is investigating opportunities in Mombasa, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam and Diani.”
McLachlan also noted that in Eastern Africa, Ethiopia presented the most prospects because of the population and ease of airlift access thanks to its proximity to Bole International Airport, the main hub for Africa’s leading airline, Ethiopian Airlines.
He further added that Addis Ababa has the potential to host each of the group’s five active hotel brands in Africa.
To date this year, Radisson Hotel Group has opened two hotels in Africa; Radisson Blu Hotel & Conference Center and Radisson Blu Hotel, Algiers Hydra.
Radisson Hotel Group is scheduled to open two more hotels in the continent before the end of the year.
The two hotels are: Radisson Blu Hotel & Residence Nairobi Arboretum which is scheduled for opening in October and Radisson Blu Hotel Casablanca which is scheduled for November.
