NIGERIA – Kenyan digital verification startup Peleza has merged with US-based digital security platform Prembly to start a new venture offering advanced solutions for businesses.

Formed in 2021, Prembly operates a security infrastructure and compliance software that helps digital businesses in emerging markets safely acquire, onboard customers, and perform seamless transactions across borders with trust & without restrictions.

Peleza, conversely, will bring its experience to the East African region by partnering with companies like Uber, Bolt, and FedEx.

The merger has created the Prembly Group, which will see more than 100 employees from both startups work together in different operational offices in Uganda, Kenya, the United States, and Nigeria.

The merger with Peleza deepens our industry knowledge and elevates our strengths and technologies, empowering us to exceed our clients’ expectations worldwide,” said Lanre Ogungbe, founder and CEO of Prembly.

“We are also very excited to have Marita, with over 15 years of experience, join our leadership team at the newly formed Prembly Group to drive innovation and enhance our strategic initiatives.”

Prembly has verified more than 40 million individuals in its system, a factor Peleza leveraged for the past one and a half years when facilitating its operations.

The strength in both our numbers as one unified team, with both enterprises coming together to serve global markets and creating a combined culture that supports our single global vision of driving excellence in data integrity and regulatory compliance, quite excites us!” said Peleza’s founder, Marita Mutemi.

Mutemi will assume the role of CEO of Prembly Group, hoping to drive the unified firm to new heights.

The company intends to help telecommunications, e-commerce, and finance companies highlight risks, comply with regulatory requirements, and strengthen identity management.

Although the merger accounts for a combined staff of about 100, Ogungbe and Marita disclosed that at least ten employees would be transitioned out of the organization with severance packages as their roles have been redundant.

Explaining the thought behind the new name, Ogungbe said the decision to name the new organization Prembly Group was a result of a mutual agreement reached by Peleza and Prembly to “leverage the brand equity and established market presence of Prembly, especially given its global recognition in compliance and digital security solutions.”
