MOROCCO – Hapag-Lloyd, a German shipping company mainly transporting agricultural goods out of Africa has set base in Morocco with the opening of its own offices in the country.
The logistic company has opened three offices with the headquarter being Casablanca and two satellite offices in both Tangier and Agadir.
Morocco, being an important platform for the export of fresh produce, is part of Hapag-Lloyd’s development strategy in the refrigerated container transport sector
In addition, the country is perfectly connected to the global Hapag-Lloyd network by the port of Tanger-Med, which is a strategically important port for the entire logistics industry.
Last year, Hapag-Lloyd acquired a 10% stake in container terminal 3 (TC3) at the port of Tanger-Med 2.
“The Moroccan economy has grown steadily over the last years. Many Moroccan shippers have already experienced Hapag-Lloyd´s services,” said Juan Pablo Richards, Senior Managing Director Region South Europe of Hapag-Lloyd.
“With the opening of our new representation in the country, we strive to meet customers´ requirements for proximity and quality of service.”
With this additional presence in the country, 47 shipping experts are looking forward to serving customers all over the country.
The company continues to realize its growth ambitions in the most attractive markets across the region.
In March, Hapag-Lloyd, opened a new office in Kenya as part of its growth strategy in Africa, with its main business managed from the port city of Mombasa, supported by an office in Nairobi.
This was aimed to further enhance the company’s regular inland connections to and from Mombasa with landlocked East African countries – such as Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan.
As part of its growth strategy, the shipping company is seeking to develop inland connections to Somalia, Southern Ethiopia and Northern Tanzania.
Still seeking further growth in the region, Hapag-Lloyd, took full ownership of the Dutch container shipping company Nile Dutch Investments B.V.
With over 40 years of expertise, NileDutch is one the leading providers of container services from and to West Africa.
The company is present in 85 locations across the world and has 16 own offices in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Singapore, China, Angola, Congo and Cameroon.
It currently offers 10 liner services, around 35,000 TEU of transport capacity and a container fleet of around 80,000 TEU, connecting Europe, Asia and Latin America with West and South Africa.
Hapag-Lloyd, aims to complete the commercial integration of the new business into its operations by the end of 2021.
