SOUTH AFRICA – HyperionDev, a South African tech education startup, has raised R95 million (US$5 million) to expand tech education.

This latest financial infusion is part of a broader R595 million (US$31.1 million) investment to accelerate the company’s expansion within South Africa and internationally, particularly in the United Kingdom.

The capital injection will facilitate the expansion of HyperionDev’s array of educational programs and the augmentation of its scholarship initiatives, including the notable HyperionDev Academy.

In addition to geographical expansion, the strategic use of the investment includes enhancing accessibility to technological education for all learners who use the HyperionDev platform. The envisioned enhancements are poised to benefit many individuals looking to advance their tech skills.

This marks a new chapter for HyperionDev and highlights the essential role of skills development globally,” said Riaz Moola, the founder and CEO of HyperionDev.

“In a related context, we have the emerging ed-tech startup FoondaMate from South Africa. This innovative company is revolutionising how students study by leveraging WhatsApp’s popular messaging app.

“Through FoondaMate’s creative solution, students are provided with a more accessible and convenient platform to support their educational endeavours, showcasing another aspect of how technology is transforming the education sector in South Africa and beyond.”

Riaz added that the strategic alliances have been instrumental in cementing the company’s stature as a formidable entity in global tech education.

The company has partnered with institutions such as Stellenbosch University, Imperial College London, and the University of Manchester.

Further solidifying its global footprint, HyperionDev has embarked on new partnerships in North America, France, and Spain.

These collaborations aim to drive the company’s growth and maintain its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving landscape of tech education.

The objective is clear: to reinforce HyperionDev’s reputation as a leader in providing top-tier technology training and educational resources worldwide.

Since its inception in 2012, HyperionDev has offered specialised, mentored coding boot camps that have prepared over 2,000 graduates for tech careers at major companies like Amazon and Barclays.

The startup’s educational programs are designed to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in technology-focused roles.

We are actively seeking to collaborate with more university institutions nationwide and are eager to join forces with the government to strengthen digital skills development and enhance employability across the country,” Moola said.
