KENYA – Cooper K-Brands Limited (CKL), an animal health company, has commissioned a Sh700 million (US$7m) animal feed supplement manufacturing plant at Tatu City, central Kenya to expand its production capacity.

Seated on 5.7 acres of land, the new factory has a capacity to produce 2 tons per hour of nutritional supplements for livestock. The factory features an automated Buhler (Switzerland) plant fitted into a 36.5m tower.

With a 541 kilowatts power requirement, the new factory is also fitted with a 200-kilowatt Photo Voltaic rooftop system as an alternative for cleaner energy for up to 50% of its daytime requirement.

The company said that the investment will accelerate its efforts achieve its corporate goal of enabling Africa to be a global leader in food production.

Mr. Mucai Kunyiha, Group Managing Director at Cooper K-Brands Limited said, “This new initiative is aimed at meeting the nutritional and production needs of livestock farmers in Kenya and within the region.

“With the launch of the new factory, the company has expanded its capacity and capability to manufacture and improve Maclik and other nutritional supplements.”

New look of its flagship product ‘Maclik’  

CKL also unveiled a new look packaging for its flagship brand, Maclik.  Maclikis a mineral supplement product that provides essential minerals to dairy and meat animals at different stages of production. 

The brand variants in this range are Maclik Super- which has the necessary mineral requirements for high producing lactating dairy animals, Maclik Dry Cow- a balanced mineral supplement specifically developed to meet the needs of a pregnant cow in the drying period (two months prior to calving).

Other variant include; Maclik Beef- which has mineral requirements of beef stock, sheep and goats, Maclik Mineral Brick – useful for introduction of calves to mineral supplements and Maclik Plus- a special formulation for heifers and growing stock for improved health, heat enhancement and to prepare the heifer for conception and eventual lactation.

The launch of the multimillion state-of-the-art factory is the first phase of the company’s expansion plans. The company plans to relocate its manufacturing plants from its main offices in Loresho, Nairobi to Tatu City in Kiambu County.   

CKL also manufactures and distributes other agricultural input brands such as Triatix, Grenade, Nilzan, Nefluk, CKL Milking Salve, Diamond V, CRV, Romectin, Kupakula, Metro, Ambar and Mastrite.
